BRIEF - July 19, 2005
Hello Race Fans!
There are 62 confirmed competitors
from 17 countries in two classes for the 4th Junior World Gliding
Championships.
Mike Westbrook will depart for the
UK on July 25 and meet up with his crew Ryan Vihlen. Ryan is nineteen, a Kolstad winner from 2003, has his
Gold badge and flies a Libelle. He attended the junior camp this
year in Moriarty and Harris Hill and flew the Region 3
championship. Mike will be flying an ASW-28 owned by Chris Luton
made possible through Doug Jacobs offer of his LS-8 in return for
anyone with a ship Mike could fly at the Junior WGC.
Garret
Willat will be departing on July 21 for the UK. Richard Browne
generously offered his LS8 for Garret to fly and in return
he is
flying Garret's Discus 2a in Uvalde at the 15 meter nationals.
Team Captain Bob Leve will be
arriving on the 28th to pick up cars and start arranging the team
program. Through George Moffat and Mike Bird a local expert has
agreed to help the Juniors.
His name is
Adrian Hatten and he flies at HusBos and is a competition pilot
with 3500 hours. He is also the backup weather man for the
contest.

This year Frank Whiteley will be posting the Junior
team coverage supplied by Team Captain Bob Leve and others to this
team web page. Bob will send reports from the flight line in the
UK to Frank in Colorado who will do the posting here. So bookmark

In
2005, The Soaring Centre, in
association with the BGA, will be hosting the 5th Junior World
Gliding Championships. This will be the first International gliding
championships to be held in the UK in over a generation. The Soaring
Centre, has with 400 members and a large fleet of modern glassfibre
sailplanes.
Situated in the heart of the Midlands, the airfield is
only 3 miles from the major motorway networks, and 1/2 mile from
Husbands Bosworth village, making access easy from any part of the
country.
